Chair Anatomy

Publication Project

About the project

Chair Anatomy is an editorial publication that explores the structure, construction, and design philosophy behind some of the world’s most iconic chairs. Inspired by James Orrom’s Chair Anatomy, the project combines research, technical analysis, visual documentation, and editorial design to examine how materials, manufacturing, form, and function come together in furniture design.

The publication was developed as an exercise in information design and visual storytelling, covering everything from designer profiles and chair histories to technical drawings, dimensions, construction details, and material studies. A modular 12-column grid, carefully defined typography, and a consistent visual language were used to organize diverse information into cohesive and engaging spreads.

Designed and authored as part of an academic publication project at IIT Hyderabad, the project became an exploration of how complex design knowledge can be transformed into a structured, accessible, and visually compelling reading experience.
